The Beginning

The Beginning

A Chapter by world gone mad

How was I to know that I was destined to kill my best friend and family?

I was just a thirteen year old kid trying to be popular and get by in middle school.

I warn you now in advance that this is my gruesome story and it will make you want

to make the same mistakes I made so don't go any farther. But if you think you can be

brave enough and won't hide under your blankets at night after reading this then go ahead

I dare you!

We start in California in a quaint little town. The birds are singing and

chipmunks looking for nuts. But I'm at the park listing to my iPod my best friend

sitting next to me reading his favorite book.

“Tristan, you should join book club with me,”

“Garret I don't like to read,” I mumble “remember”

Garret and I have been friends since second grade.I was the new kid in his

class and I was always keeping to myself. One day I saw some third grade boys

pushing Garret around so I ran up to them and punched the biggest guy in the gut

as hard as I could and I was going crazy. I was, of course, in the principles room

with my parents afterwards but I had a new best friend. So I didn't care if I broke

some guys nose. But now we're in middle school and Garret has grown an inch taller

than me. I have short black hair and blue eyes. Garret has curly brown hair and hazel

eyes.

“But we need one more person.”

“Garret ,” I sighed “I hate reading, but if it was a cool group like soccer then yeah I

would join.”

I played on our fifth grade soccer team as offence. I would always score the winning

goal in every game. I was the best on the team. But Garret isn't a sporty person so that

wouldn't work. I turned off my iPod and put it in my jacket pocket. Then I turned to

Garret and stuck my tongue out at him. He pulled a face and we both laughed. Then my

cell phone went off.

“I bet you anything that that is my mom,” I said to Garret. I took my cell phone out of

my pocket and flipped it opened. Sure enough it was my mom at the other end of the line.

“Tristan, time to come home,”

“Okay mom, I'm heading over there now.”

“Bye,” my mom said then I hung up. Garret looked at me and smiled.

“What, I said.

“Nothing.”

“Well it was her and she said I have to head home now,”

“Okay see you tomorrow?”

“Sure, same place, same time.”

I ran up to the gate of the park and opened it. And ran right into my destiny. Well actually

it was an old guy but you get the idea.

“Sorry sir,” I mumbled to him.

“No problem Tristan Norrowmore,” he said in a raspy voice. I stopped dead in my tracks.

How did he know my name? But when I turned around to ask him he was gone.

“That was weird,” I said aloud.

I was right on the steps when my dad stepped out of the house. He and my mom argue

all the time so I wouldn't be surprised if this was just another time he was going to

his happy place to drink himself drunk and crashing at a random hotel. Doesn't my life

sound like the best. Not.

“Dad where you going?”

“I'm meeting a couple of the guys at the locale bar.”

Yep. Just like I said. I was about to tell him that I didn't like it when he met “the guys”

but he was already in his car and heading off. I walked over the thresh hold and heard

my mom crying. I hate it when she cries. My mom's name is Robin Norrowmore. She is

the best person I go to if I'm having one of those days as she calls it. She works at The

Sweet Life candy store and she always smells like toffee when she gets home. My mom

hasn't had the best of luck in life but she said I was the best thing that ever happened to

her. She was a drinker to, just like my dad but as soon as she found out she was pregnant

with me she stopped smoking and drinking. She said I turned her life around for the

better. But when she told my dad she was expecting they're marriage went down the

drain. I guess daddy dearest wasn't ready to be a father. But for some reason he stuck

around. Mom said he tried to convince her to get an abortion but she refused. They

broke up after that but then when mom was nine months into her pregnancy they got

back together. I walked into the kitchen to get a sandwich out of the fridge and there

was my mom sitting at the table head in her hands.

“Mom, you okay?” I asked in a soft voice. She took three gulps of air and shook her

head.

“Your father and I are getting a divorce,”

I just felt like a bomb exploded in the pit of my stomach. I know I really didn't like

my dad and I would be glad to see him leave but I think my mom really loves this guy.

So why should I be worried? Because it means that my mom and I have to move.

Technically this is daddy dearest's house so if he wants to throw us out then he can.

But I don't want my mom to suffer through that pain of being homeless. So I try to

be strong. Just for her. I walk over to her and gave her a hug. Then she just let it all go.

She started crying harder and I couldn't stand it any longer. After mom's little tear fest

I went to bed. Well actually I was waiting for my dad to come home so I could yell at

him for breaking my mothers heart. I hear my moms feet on the stairs in the direction of

her room. Then I heard my dads car driving in the driveway. Time to kick some butt! I

went down stairs and waited in front of the door with my arms folded across my chest.

“Hey, aren't you supposed to be in bed?” dad grumbled.

“Not while mom is crying her eyes out because you guys are getting a divorce,” I said in

strained calmness “what are you going to do throw us out of the house!” I yelled. It was

maybe too late to tell that I pissed him off. But hey I'm just a thirteen year old kid I don't

know anything.

“That was way out of line mister,” dad grumbled. My dads name is William Trumps. Now

if you just noticed I used a different last name thats because mom never took his last

name. But of course I had to be the last one to make him snap. So I said that he was a

stupid b*****d and he was never my father. So he took a running leap up the stairs

after me but I was too quick. And maybe the booze wasn't helping him much either but

hey every little thing counts. Even if that little thing is saving my butt. I ran right into

my room and slammed the door and locked it.

“Tristan Gabrielle Norrowmore you open up this door right now or I'll slap you silly,”

my dad yelled while pounding the door. I yelled at him to go away and die in a ditch.

Can't you tell I'm one happy teenager. Of course not. He kept on pounding my door

while throwing around threats here and there but I still didn't open my door. So he gave

up and stomped off to bed. I wanted to talk to my mom but shes probably asleep. So

instead I leaned over the side of my bed and took out my laptop. And logged on to the

chat room and clicked on Garrets name.

TGN: Hey dude I need 2 talk 2 u.

Sylar123: Whats up?

TGN: Dad and I got into another fight. I think I'm going to come over 2nite .

Sylar123: Wont your mom be worried if your not there?

TGN: Naw. She wont even notice. So I'll be over in a few.

Sylar123: Kay see u soon.

I logged of and grabbed my back pack and dumped out my school books and stuffed

some clothes in it and slung it onto my back. As I walked over to my window to open

it I heard my mother crying in her sleep. I had a moment of when I stopped to think if

I was making the right decision but then I heard my father snore and that brought

me back into reality. I had to leave or I would just be living a horrible life filled

with bad feelings so I climbed out the window and walked across the lawn. But I

stopped in my tracks. Was someone watching me or was it my imagination. SNAP!

“Whose there!” I yelled.

“Tristan Norrowmore nice to finally see you,” said a voice from behind me. I jumped

from surprise and slowly turned toward the voice.

“You!” I gasped, “I bumped into you at the park!”

The old man looked at me as if I was the most curious thing in the world. Then he

stepped toward me and I stepped backward. I didn't know this guy so I didn't trust this

weirdo.

“My name is Samuel Johnson and I have come to take you to see the Council of

Evolution.”

Okay this guy is crazy!

“Well nice to meet you, but I got to go now.”

“You have to come with me, trust me I'm a friend.”

“I don't even know you!”

“My name is Samuel, Sam to my friends, and I am ...” that was when the old

withered man started to grow smaller. His wrinkles disappeared and his clothes

went from old man attire to a white t shirt and blue jeans “ thirteen years old.”

“How did you do that?” I asked. He smiled and shrugged his shoulders.

“Its my talent. Everybody at the Council of Evolution has one. They think you might

have a talent.”

I just stared at him and .... just stared. I was speechless. Me , have a talent? Yeah right!

“What kind of talent , I don't know but they want you to come with me so they can find

out,” he explained “so will you come with.”

I had to think about this. What if he was telling the truth, I mean I saw what he did. He

went from being a old guy to thirteen. This would make my boring old life a little bit

more interesting. But I don't know if I could trust Samuel. But I had to make a snap

decision so I answered him.

“Fine I'll come.”
