Thin, silver line,

Of a woman’s sad warble about to die.

In the darkest corner,

Washed out looking-

Various pieces of broken glass,

A cat slips by in the distance,

An arm falls into sight-

And on the ground a resounding clash,

Glass litters the floor encircling her wrist,

And light flashes upward.

A pair of lips move-

Yet no sound escapes.

The faintest struggle to stir particles of space caught in the-

Flame, which spreads itself across the ribbon of the encircling light,

Now enclosing her.

A hand reaches out, in one last attempt-

To spread itself in the wave,

Of the broken piece of glass which casts-

Its crystal-clear, sparkling picture in the darkness.

But, falling short of reaching the object,

The pale hand recedes into night’s black,

At rest . . .

The broken jar lay beside the woman forgotten,

A soul which felt a kinship to its broken fragment,

Before it, too, subsided into,

Mild watery rivers and striations-

Of the soft, moving shadows, which soon,

Just like the rest of night’s visitors, which, unseen to the living spirit-

Often came to play their games in the shadowed corners,

Picked their comfortable stations,

And gathered round yet another familiar image,

And welcomed the telltale absence of beating flesh,

Arms opening, to beckon unto themselves, a friend amongst ash,

As the soul of a woman stepped away from its carcass,

And began to play games of chess, and drink champagne,

Joining in the nightly frivolities, in the last.
