Mellencamp

A Poem by Foxemerald
"

Based on the syntax of John Mellencamp's last name.

"

MELLENCAMP-

(it's astonishing, really, what a single word can do  . . . )

A catastrophic play upon,

the  symmetry of perfect rhyme,

that  slowly trickles through the air,

nourishing the unfed line.

I  wedge it from the hungered context

but the impress of its life is stringent

teasing the embedded syntax,

disillusioning its placement.

. . .

I lift my hand to rub the center,

of my work-driven, tired eyeballs,

searching for the vain of reason-

the bane of this prodigal mishap. . .

And  suddenly  it dawns-

and I cry, out in hopeless lament-

"MELLONCAMP!"
