Dear Daddy

Dear Daddy

A Poem by Brett Forsythe
"

Wrote this for all the parents who expect too much out of their kids.

"

Dear Daddy,

It's been a year since you have passed, it still hurts me everyday,

The fact that I had failed you, before you’d gone away,

I wish I was a better son, then maybe you’d be proud,

Point to me and say that’s him, while smiling from your cloud,

I wish I could’ve won my race or got the final score,

For the last eight years invisible has been the name tag that I’ve worn,

My trying best has not sufficed, I was not born to win,

With every harmless breath I take, I feel as though I’ve sinned,

Emptiness and cold, this pain has long been known,

You said you loved me all the time though love was never shown.

I'm so sorry

Jake

Some suggestions! :) Okay, so instead of "that I've worn" you should try "I have worn" I think it flows better.

And just so you know, any poem with contents such as this, especially dedications to a Father, always get to me. They open the scar on my heart of losing my Daddy on August 26th, 2009. It's been almost two years now, but the wound is still deep, and I'm sure it always will be because of the things I never got to show him and the things a father is supposed to see and do with his daughter, but won't ever do. I lost him early in my life, and so I'll have this scar forever. The wound will be stitched and re-stitched too many times to think of, but you know what? Each time I'll always remember him and how he was, and each time I'll feel lost and lonely, but in the end I'll always know someone is there for me and that my Daddy will forever be with me.

Thank you for writing such a wonderful piece, I really connected with it. I love it.
