MistakesA Poem by Brett ForsytheI wrote this to give my opinion on peoples actions when they say people can't change.“Once a cheater always a cheater.” Those were your words, not mine, Having suppressed my emotions for so long, This strangled heart made clear it had no intentions of surrendering, I remember the day you called me into your house, I was nervous and sweaty, armed but not ready, To hear what you prepared for me, You began to talk though I was not listening, Captivated by the screaming silence throughout the halls of your home, I snapped back into focus just for a second, Just long enough to hear the words “dirty” and “worthless,” My legs shot up as I turned and began to walk away, An intrigued look filled your face, One that I will never forget, I was young and stupid, But that was years ago, I’ve apologized to the heavens and back, In an attempt to restore my fading soul, Yet you found joy in letting me relive my mistakes, I was done, finally finished, You long before, True love is not to never make mistakes, But to find forgiveness when mistakes are made, Not all actions are intended, However you pre-planned this attack, Rendering our love useless, I stepped into my car and drove away, For no longer was I going to be undermined and treated like a child for my previous wrong doings, Perhaps I’ll prove that people can change, And just maybe, One day you’ll see where you made your mistake. © 2011 Brett ForsytheAuthor's Note
