Lust (or a lack thereof)

Lust (or a lack thereof)

A Poem by Emma Lee-Riviera
"

A different view of the cravings of the body from a mind that doesn't comprehend lust.

"
I don't feel it.
The bloodlust of human copulation.
It doesn't seep into my pores
and collect in my blood,
it doesn't make a fire
burn in my gut.
That firestorm called 'passion,'
with it's rosy cheeks and dark smile.
Seducing the eager masses
and ignoring the indifferent.

I don't crave it.
The touches,
concupiscent and unrelenting,
the fierce fingernail tracks,
the ache of absence.
The messages and calls
of another human.
Another mind to keep balanced.
Another body to nurture.
Another life in which to assimilate.

I seek, but not as others do.
I crave the sunshine in a smile
and the music of laughter.
Two people making conversation,
a fragile web of trust,
jokes and sorrows and secrets,
creating a world for two.
A universe apart.
A galaxy beyond.

I don't feel it as others do,
the bloodlust of humanity.
But I see in another light.
A lust for existence
and passion for understanding,
of caring and consequence and joy.

I care not for the meshing of bodies,
but revel in the melding of souls.
Bodies will wither
and crumble
and fade.
But souls?
Who's to say
they truly ever decay
or rot or wilt or lessen at all?

Lust is no more than the scratching of the surface; and in any event soon fades. Love on the other hand, is the sunshine of a smile, the music of laughter, the melding of souls; that's when two truly become one and I am so pleased that you understand an appreciate so important a difference.

Very much enjoyed this. Beccy.

Oh, I am so happy... so very, very happy to be the first to review this. It is the heart, dare I say the "soul" (whatever that may be) baring itself to the universe-at-large. It takes great insight and even greater courage to say these things that deviate from the norm, things that lie outside the 99th percentile on the bell curve of life. Only a few will truly apprecate but those few are, perhaps, the ones that revel in the "melding of souls" and lust with deep passion to understand existence; to experience it first-hand through "caring and consequence and joy." They are stardust, they are golden... already immortals in their own way - and rightly so having shared such lines as these. Marvelous, my dear Emma... simply beautiful.
