Forgotten Spirits

Forgotten Spirits

A Poem by Forgotten

Why must the lives of three...
Be sacrificed for one?
Dropped into oblivion before their time,
Life gave but no chance upon these young warriors,
The guilt I bare burns,
Like the cross upon Lucifer's heart.

I am sad to have not met you,
Yet thankful that life took its chance on me,
Upon my heart I cry for you,
Tears of crimson fall upon your closed graves,
Sharing the pain you feel,
Within my warping mind,
I suffer for your forgiveness.

Wishing upon lucky stars I ask for the impossible,
Your embrace upon my hand,
Yet you are too far away to hear me,
How much blood must I shed,
Before I can see your eroded smiles?

How can I miss what I've never had?
I reach into your graves to touch your hearts,
Terrified of what the embrace I might find,
Life chose me and just threw you aside,
Sometimes I just wonder...
What would you have done?

The survivor's guilt is immense. Well composed; thoughtful yet soaked with pain. Thanks for inviting me to read 'Forgotten Spirits'. ~ pat
