Forgotten Spirits

Forgotten Spirits

A Poem by Forgotten

Why must the lives of three...
Be sacrificed for one?
Dropped into oblivion before their time,
Life gave but no chance upon these young warriors,
The guilt I bare burns,
Like the cross upon Lucifer's heart.

I am sad to have not met you,
Yet thankful that life took its chance on me,
Upon my heart I cry for you,
Tears of crimson fall upon your closed graves,
Sharing the pain you feel,
Within my warping mind,
I suffer for your forgiveness.

Wishing upon lucky stars I ask for the impossible,
Your embrace upon my hand,
Yet you are too far away to hear me,
How much blood must I shed,
Before I can see your eroded smiles?

How can I miss what I've never had?
I reach into your graves to touch your hearts,
Terrified of what the embrace I might find,
Life chose me and just threw you aside,
Sometimes I just wonder...
What would you have done?

"How much blood must I shed,
Before I can see your eroded smiles?"
A lot of thoughts and memories in the poem. Life open the door to many question with no answers. After some doors are closed. They can never be open again. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

As other members have written before me, this was such a beautiful poem, expressing such grief and at the same time, such guilt. The feelings you describe have probably been kept inside for a lifetime and that is why this poem is so special. I think it is beautiful that you remember them this way and it was only when I read the comments below, that I really understood what had happened.
All I can say is, that by writing this poem, you can dedicate it to their memory and I hope it will help you feel less guilty. I can totally relate to that, having lost my son in 2009 (because of a complex heart defect). And as a mother, I can only say, perhaps your writing will help you work through this grief. Your writing is really special and you have a wonderful talent.
I really hope that writing about this has helped you deal with a loss that must have troubled you all your life.
Thank you so much for sharing,
Lizbeth

I can't tell you how much this poem hit home for me, my parents were killed when I was three days old and this poem talked directly to me! I'm not sure where you were coming from but thank you for this. "Like the cross upon Lucifer's heart", Great line!

There are things in this world that eventhough we wish so hard to get will not be given to us leaving our efforts in vain... your poem again opened a topic surrounded with hidden meanings but it was understandable. The narrator wants to be punished for living but why would he when three of his friends sacrificed their lives for him.. I know it hurts but if he could consider, what are his friends thinking when they died for him? What could have been the reason?

very moving, sadness........if life is cruel what does that make death?

A real pain you've shown there. No one knows what fate brings for us so you don't have to be guilty for any thing. Loved it by the way. ^.^
