We appreciate your interest in our electronic magazine and welcome submissions of quality works.
If you wish to submit your work to our e-zine, please keep in mind the following guidelines:
- There are only four of us reading; please don't send a read request for everything you've ever written.
- We are picky. When we say "quality", we do mean quality. We aren't necessarily seeking grammatic perfection, but the story/poem/article must be well-written, well-edited, and offer something unique.
- We are not interested in dramaverse or emoetry. If it has to do with cutting oneself while wallowing in pessimistic squalor, no thanks. Cutting someone else while wallowing in pessimistic squalor--we might be interested.
- This publication's main genre is dark and disturbing. Keep that in mind while selecting works to send in. We will, however, consider anything that is well-written and unique with a strong voice.
There are several ways in which you can submit to this e-zine:
- Send an e-mail to [email protected]. DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS!! Paste your work into the body of the e-mail. Any submissions with attachments will be summarily deleted without being opened. Sorry, but you can't be too careful in this day and age.
- Send a Read Request. DO NOT SPAM US WITH READ REQUESTS, PLEASE! Limit yourself to two or three pieces. We don't care if you're channeling Hemingway; we can only read so much.
- Enter the current contest. Most of our selections come from the contests. If entering our contests, please be aware that you are agreeing to have your work included in the upcoming edition of the e-zine. If you don't want your work included, please don't enter the contests. It's hard enough getting enough quality submissions to fill a magazine without having people revoke their permission to publish.
- We might ask you for a submission. On occasion, we may come across a piece of writing we just have to have for the next edition. In such an instance, we will contact you by PM to discuss publication. We will never just take your work and publish it without your knowledge.
Some other FAQs:
- We have two editions each year: March and October.
- This is a FREE e-zine. No cost to the reader...which also means we can't afford to pay your for your submissions.
- You retain all rights to your work even after we publish. If you wish to turn around a week later and submit to a paying publication, you are free to do so.
- If you have any suggestions for the e-zine, please speak up. We can't hear you if you're silent. We might not use your idea...but then again, we might....
- We do not choose which stories we publish by who you are. If you're the Cafe's golden child, whoop-de-do. If we've had personal issues with any of you, again--whoop-de-do. Selection for publication is based on the quality of your submission. Please keep this in mind before you send any flaming PMs accusing us of bias. Yes, we are biased--toward good writing, not toward your identity.
Happy writing!
