'Tis Cold

'Tis Cold

A Poem by ForeverLeft
"

A Metaphysical Attempt

"

Like twin coals plucked

From Heaven’s bright furnace,

We burned in Love’s fiery passion.

Loved as no other,

Halved grief,

Multiplied joys,

And smiled well.

But we as lovers cannot stay.

Weep not my once-beloved;

Weep not.

For love, like coals dampened,

Takes long to burn again.

Fire of Love cannot be kindled,

In love wet with tears of sorrow.

Wetted coals are whetted not.

Yea, alit, two coals of love I confess

We were once ago: I was happy then.

But, the fires burned,

Never to blend.

Again I say,

I cherished such fond hours.

But court me not,

Our love cannot blend.
