Makeup

Makeup

A Poem by Samantha.

She spends all day applying color and unnatural beauty to her face

So that when you come home its her that you notice

You always greet her with a smile but often that’s all she will receive

She tells herself that you’ve just been working

You’re supporting her, you love her, and you need her

But she won’t say he doesn’t love me, he’s using me

I could be better without him, but those are the things she knows are true

One day ends another begins

As your work day starts her primping resumes

She stars by saying goodbye to you

Then turns on a sad melody

Enters her room and sits at the mirror

She looks in the mirror and sees her true reflection

Tears start rolling down her cheeks

Yesterdays mascara starts to run

But she doesn’t stop it

She watches tear after tear roll down her cheek

This time, alone is the only time she doesn’t wear a lip gloss painted smile

She removes the tears and mascara

She leans forward and grabs her eyeliner

She applies the make up that will once more carry her through another day with you

But will you ever see what lies underneath it all

The things that she covers up just for you
