Chapter 2 – Reason
I found myself tied to a bed that was chained to the floor; I couldn’t move I was completely chained to the bed. The last thing I remembered was...
“Damn it, Damien! I demand you untie me.” I yelled out in vain. He wasn’t even in the room with me, let alone the fact that he wouldn’t listen to me. Just as I began to think he hadn’t heard me, I saw his familiar face pop around the corner of the door.
“You know that’s no way for a lady to act,” He mocked me, as I gave him a death glare. Why did he have to bring me to his place for, he knew I hated him almost as much as I hated the man he worked for; who was the ripper, the creature from my dream. His black eyes mocked me, waiting for me to calm myself down before he aggravated me again.
“Now that you are finally awake, we can get down to business.” His voice was cold and rough, this was normal, well, at least for him.
“What on earth are you talking about?” I yelled at him, he just waited again for me to cool down; it seemed he had an endless amount of patience.
“I’m talking about the fact that you keep dreaming about my master. He has instructed me to bring you to him since it is well past time for you to make your choice.” He replied harshly, he didn’t raise his voice at me but the venom in his voice made me unintentionally shiver.
“So what it’s either I work for him or be eaten by him!” I yelled at Damien again, I wasn’t ready to make this choice. I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant to work under the Ripper, nor would it be pleasant to be eaten by him either. I looked at Damien again, I looked at his small but muscular body, I looked at his high cheek bones, the layered black hair, His black eyes which held only some emotion and I realized I might hate him, but he wasn’t that bad. Not as bad as some people I had met before. Just by looking at him, I knew my decision without really having to make a choice and all of this only took a few seconds to take in, that he didn’t even recognized the subconscious choice I had just made.
“Yea, that’s pretty much it.” He replied coolly but sarcastically. His black eyes looked like they were fire and his lips twitched into a crooked smile. Some idea had him smiling like this and somehow it made him seem just a little bit handsome, but I would never admit that to him.
I sighed. I guess it there really was no choice than to work for the Ripper no matter how much I hated him. “Fine, then you might as well take me to him.” I replied as softly as I could. I looked back into his eyes, and saw that he was shocked that I would come without so much as resisting but he didn’t say anything. He just came closer to me and gently released my hands, his fingertips softly grazing against my skin as he unlocked the chains. He then moved down to release my feet. I realized that I could simply run and he would be powerless to stop me but I didn’t I would have to face the Ripper sooner or later and I preferred that I got it out of the way now rather than just having to worry about him coming after me himself.
“Ready?” He asked, sounding just as resigned as I was.
“I guess I’m going to have to do this sooner or later.” I replied, I couldn’t help letting out the small sarcastic tone carry out in my voice. I was sure he could hear it too but he just shook his head and said nothing. He held me by the wrist and pulled me along with him, leaving behind us the room I had been tied up in. We passed three rooms that were on the same corridor before we got to the fourth room. He reached out his hand and opened the door, the only things in the room was a desk, a chair and a wall mirror. The room looked completely safe but I felt as if the room portrayed more than what it appeared to be. I looked at Damien, lifting one eyebrow at him in question. He didn’t say anything but pulled me along to the mirror, rubbing his hand in a circle on it. As soon as he lifted his hand from the mirror, a picture was there instead looking as real as life.
“You First Maria,” Damien instructed me to go, nodding his head towards the mirror. I wasn’t sure, I looked at him confused but then I decided not to ask him, but to trust him instead. I placed one hand against the picture first and my hand sunk through it as if I was just placing my hand into a hologram, I then placed my left foot through the mirror and I landed inside of the picture, I looked back at where I just entered and saw Damien coming through the mirror as well.
“What was that?” I decided to ask him this time. He quickly looked at me before he stopped right by my side.
“It was a portal from the human world into the dream world.” He told me, before again taking my wrist and pulling me along with him, dragging me down the path covered in dead brown leaves, the trees that surrounded the path lifeless without their leaves. A few miles ahead of us, was an old gray city, with a castle right in the middle of it which I guessed was our intended destination.
“Damien, where are we going?” I asked him again, as we walked further down the path.
“To the city of the damned, it’s the Ripper’s city. He lives in the castle and the people who work for him live in the city.” He told me sadly. I guess this would be my new home soon. I was a bit afraid, no that isn’t the right word, I was terrified to meet the Ripper in real life, I had only ever seen him in my dreams and now I was about to vow myself to work for him. But I knew my reason why and no matter what – I told myself – I would gladly stay here, in this hell, to acquire the one reason why I would stay here. My plan – no matter how stupid it seemed to me – had to work or otherwise I was doomed for the rest of eternity. Great as if that isn’t such a long time!
