My Anguish

My Anguish

A Poem by Folagbade Muyiwa

Trapped in the closet with you
With silence as chief
Our eyes were locked
And hearts mulled over

The lightening from the sky
Flashed your depthless smile
The rumbling of the thunder
Introducing perplexity

Sweetness will describe this
My mind whispered
But your shallow smile
Was a handwriting on the wall

Uneasiness began to set in
As raindrops hit the roofing
My heart didn't skip a beat
It saved it for the misery it forsaw

As you placed your lush palm on my cheek
My nerves chorused a chill
Really was I with bated breath
Having no telltale of the handwriting

When you opened your mouth to talk
My heart well-nigh broke lose
And your sole statement
Made tracks for myisery

Tears rolled down my cheeks
As you hoofed it to the door
And let me
To salvage my smashed heart alone
