Had I known

A Poem by Folagbade Muyiwa

Patience they say, is a virtue
I believed but didn't accept
Jumping at you was easy
Giving me the smile I wanted

I was in no wreckage
When I met you
Because I didn't accept that virtue
I jumped at your offer

My heart never said no
Just as I wanted
Never did I remember
That I didn't know tomorrow

Though laughter was never scarce
When your heart spoke through your mouth
It was not what I needed
But I believed and accepted it

To my heart
You were so really in
Never did I know that to your heart
I was just a passerby

You pretended to be true
Though your fakeness was revealed
Yet I believed in your pretence
And exposed my heart to the arrow

My heart was not weak
But your poisoned arrow pierced through
And brought me to the ruins
Where I never was
