Fathers and Sons

Fathers and Sons

A Poem by Steve

I stare in the mirror and look for signs of you.

Striving to be the man you were.

I know you weren’t perfect,

but my memories tell me you were.

I guess that is the point of fathers and sons.

When we are young,

We want to be different and be our own man.

But as we get older,

We see the truth.

We want to be just like you,

But always feeling like we come up short.

You had all the answers,

But we never really listened.

Now that you are gone,

We try to remember and pass on what we can.

I guess that is the curse of fathers and sons.

Never truly understanding,

till we can no longer ask.

All we can do is take your advice and wisdom,

And pass it on to our own.

To hope that your memories,

pass on to them as well.

I will always stare into the mirror and look for signs of you.
