Chapter 1: Just Another Day At St.Hartmann's HighA Chapter by Adil Khan
"Shhrrreeeeeee..............", blew the coach's whistle.
Down in the field, fifth graders were busy playing football. A lean kid, with dirty black hair, had pushed down a tall boy and the coach ran forward to prevent a fight. The tall boy slowly rose up and brushed dirt from his elbows as the others ran back to their positions. 'JASON! JASON!!!' Seventeen year old Jason Adams was interrupted by Mr. Wilson's husky voice. He took a moment before he looked away from the window, and finally paid attention to his Maths teacher. "Y-yes Mr. Wilson?" "What's the answer to the problem?" "Which problem s-sir?" That elicited a laugh from the class before Mr. Wilson shook his head and pointed with his thumb at the blackboard. "That problem." "Oh, umm....I don't know." Another round of laughter. Mr. Wilson silenced the class and said," Anyone else?" A cute blonde girl, wearing specs too big for her face, alone raised her hand. "Yes, Jessica?" "6.14", she said confidently, before her voice dropped to a shy murmur. "Dylan's birthday", she added and blushed. The class went pin-drop silent for a second, and the next moment there was hysterical laughter. A few boys playfully slapped Dylan Mathew's back. Dylan, on his part, muttered "Oh Gawd" and buried his face in his textbook. It took a considerable amount of shouting before Mr. Wilson had the class quiet again. Then, just as he turned to write another problem on the board, the bell rang. The noise resumed. Only this time, Mr. Wilson made no effort to quiet the class. He gathered his books and left. Good for Jason. He hated Maths. © 2015 Adil KhanReviews
