Vanquished LightA Poem by flyingfree
Some nights in bed I cry myself to sleep
An unknown phantom stirring inside of me The tears are rolling, coursing down my face Etching rivers, curving with a liquid grace Though people always ask if I'm all right They never knew that long ago my light Was swallowed by an empty void, a dark Reflecting overflowing sadness of my heart Since the day the Devil crept into my ear And whispered words that brought me far from fear Then dropped me down an endless flight of stairs Each jolt is bruising, bringing futile prayers Something stabbing inside me, a weapon tarnished Whatever hopeful flames that flutter soon extinguished Without a light the dark has nothing left to fight Without a sound my soul is vanquished by the night. © 2017 flyingfreeReviews
