Mason POV

After Crystal had finished her story Orion squeezed his eyes shut, I swear I could see tears in his eyes. Jesse and Crystal were in their own little conversation so I kept my eyes on Orion who was mumbling something, I walked closer so I could hear better, I could faintly make out one word. "Kathryn" Orion kept repeating, it came out as strangled sobs. Jesse and Crystal were listening at this point, Crystal looked ready to cry again and Jesse had a worried look on his face. Orion's cries became more frantic so I took hold of his shoulder and began shaking him gently. "Orion, Orion!" I was no use he wasn't listening to me. Jesse came forwards and tried "Orion Mate, open your eyes" we waited a moment and still nothing. Orion was no longer crying Kathryn's name so I tried again "Orion!? Orion are you okay?" this time Orion opened his eyes with startled and very high pitched scream feel over a bumped his head. Jesse and Crystal must have forgotten what had just happened as they started chuckling and him. Orion glared at me "Not cool mate" he said whilst rubbing his head, I flinched slightly at his tone "Sorry, you just looked a bit sad is all" You could tell he felt bad for snapping at me as his face softened "Me sad psh. I'm fine mate just thinking about stuff, nothing to worry about." He gave me a clearly fake smile, I studied his face for a moment = trying to figure him out, after a while I shrugged, I still didn't believe him but I didn't want to push him either. I grabbed a can of coke and resumed my position next to the campfire "So what's your backstory Orion? How did you find out about YOU'RE powers? I tried to keep my voice as normal as possible so he wouldn't know I was on to him, I think it worked as he looked around the group he shrugged a little "Me!? Well it's nothing too amazing really" with that he lent on his back looking at the stars, After a moments silence Orion looked up, we all pulled the best puppy dog eyes we could muster, he gave us a huge sigh "Fine, Fine I'll tell you".

Orion laid back down looking at the stars again, we all followed. "I was 7 when it happened. I was wasn't the fittest or smartest of children and I use to be bullied for it. One night I was walking back from school and they followed me, I tried running from them but as I said I wasn't the fastest of kids. They had me in a corner, they were shouting insults at me. One of them had a bat in his hand and was threatening to hit me with it. I didn't know what happened at the time, but when he came closer I was wishing he would just disappear. The next thing I know there is this white light and they were gone" Orion paused taking a deep breath. "At the time I assumed they just ran off, so I carried on walking home. When I got home my parents were waiting for me. Orion began stumbling over his words. Jesse gave him a reassuring hug and he continued "they weren't the nicest of people, they used to hurt me a lot, nobody knows this but I had a little sister Lilah, they used to hurt her as well" I didn't like where this was going, but I continued listening. "That night they were drunk, really drunk. I was in my sister's room reading her a book when they came in, my mum grabbed Lilah and took out of the room whilst my dad stayed with me. He started hitting me, he did it so much I must have passed out as the next thing I remember was waking up in a hospital. I asked them where my sister was but they wouldn't say anything until a police officer was there. I knew something bad had happed" Jesse was still sat next to him comforting him "Orion you don't have to continue if don't want to" Jesse tried reassuring him but he shook his "Its fine, I want you guys to know" Jesse nodded as Orion Continued " The police came in a couple hours after and told me what happened, they.. they killed her, my parents had killed her. They would have killed me to if a neighbor hadn't heard and phoned the police" Crystal was in tears, Jesse was still comforting Orion so I went and comforted her. She laid her head in the crook of my neck. "I made funeral arrangements with the police officers. The day of the funeral was horrible, not many people turned up. The priest was just about to finish the ceremony when they turned up. The people who ruined our life. They asked the police escort if they could talk to me alone but when they said no my parents went ballistic. They chased me into a building and that's when I saw the light again. This time my parents disappeared. That's when I realized it couldn't be a coincidence. They couldn't have just run off. That's when I realized I made them disappear" Orion was no longer crying instead he had this strange look on his face, I shared a look with Jesse.

Orion carried on talking "The police questioned me, asking if I knew where they had gone. I couldn't tell them the truth. In the end they decided that my parents and just skipped town. They set news interviews and world searches out for them, but they were never found. After that I was put into an orphanage for boys. I started school, kept my past and my ability to myself. It was easy at first, nobody ever spoke to the quiet freak. Everybody assumed I didnt want to talk. It was my second week at the school when the orphanage got a call from the hospital I was in after the incident. They said they needed to talk to me and that they had some good news. The first thing I thought was Lilah, maybe they got it wrong, maybe she was still alive" Jesse had stopped comforting Orion and was now taking Crystal from me. "Of course I went to meeting, I couldn't wait. When I arrived a two policemen were there, I panicked, I assumed they had found out what I could do. Instead of arresting me or looking disappointed, they were smiling at me, not a forced smile but a genuine one. I smiled back and waited for the doctor to come out. The door I had just come through banged open revealing a lady and a man, they lady was crying and the man was comforting her, the man looked towards me and he face changed, it was like he had seen a ghost, he tapped the lady and then pointed towards me. The lady burst into tears again only these were happy ones, they both ran over to me. The lady pulled me up and hugged me, the man joined in, obviously I was confused, a random couple hugging me. They pulled back and saw the confusion on my face. Just then the doctor came out and asked us all in" Orion saw our confused faces and carried on " I was confused as well, the doctor sat us down and began telling my story to the couple who continued sobbing as it went on, he then turned to me and told me that.. well the couple I thought were my parents turned out not to be my parents. They had kidnapped Lilah and I when I was 2 and she was only a 10 months old" Jesse and Crystal gasped and I stayed quiet, not sure what to say. "The people you know Jesse and Crystal, they are my biological parents" Orion had finished his story and there was complete silence only the crackle of the flames could be herd.

Nobody said anything, nobody knew what to say. I can't believe they all went through this. So much pain and sacrifice. I know the legend says that four people need to sacrifice themselves but I can't let them they have been through enough. There is one other way to get rid, it's dangerous and I may not make it, but it's my job to protect Jesse and god help me I will. I must have zoned out from a while as the next thing I know Jesse is waving his hand in my face, "Whha.." I look around only to find Orion and Crystal missing, "It's getting late, and they have gone inside. You ok Mate? You kinda zoned out, looked like you were thinking about something pretty serious" Jesse had a worried look on his face. "Nothing. Everything is fine. Just dandy" I gave him a smile which he clearly saw through. "Mason! Please I'm not an idiot, tell me what's wrong" Jesse's eyes were pleading with me to answer him. I sat back on the floor and bought my hands to my face and sighed. Jesse sat next to me "I know you're thinking of doing something stupid, you have the same look Kathryn did when she was about to" I removed my hands and looked at Jesse. "Look, you don't have to tell me what you're thinking, but please.. Please don't do anything dangerous. I don't think I can handle losing someone else. Promise me!" Jesse was looking at me tears in his eyes, when I didn't answer he repeated himself "Mason! Please, Promise me". I gave in "Fine, I promise I won't do anything stupid" Okay I may have lied but it's for his own good. Jesse gave a sigh of relief "come on. Let's get inside before Crystal and Orion kill each other" Jesse stood up and headed towards the door me in tow.

Once we cleared everything up we decided to call it a night and went to bed. But I couldn't sleep, so I just stared at the ceiling as I tried to think up a plan. Nothing would come though. So I closed my eyes and tried to sleep once more. Just as I was about to drift off however I heard a noise coming from downstairs. It sounded like the backdoor. Did I forget to lock it? I reached for my phone and bought it to my face, the light momentarily blinding me. Being forced to squint, it read 3:46 in the morning. I must be tired I'm starting to hear noises. I was about to put it down to my imagination and being in a new house when I heard it again. Well s**t. Now what do I do? All my equipment for this mission is still packed in one of the boxes in the corner of the room. So with a sigh I silently crawled out of bed and slipped out the door. It was down to my training now. This is what I trained for after all.....I just wish I didn't suck at hand to hand combat. Luckily it seems the others haven't heard the noise as Jesse, Crystal and Orion's doors are still closed.
Out of the corner of my eye I can see a shadow of a figure dance across the door. Maybe I'm just seeing things, but I don't want to wake the others up in case it's a false alarm. So taking a deep breath I start to quietly descend down the stairs. I hear a shuffle of draws trying to be opened; from what I'm guessing is the kitchen. As I finally make it to the lounge I make one last desperate attempt to find some kind of weapon. But all that greeted me was boxes. F**k! Why didn't I unpack the important stuff. God I'm so stupid. So with no weapon in hand I continue into the kitchen, fists at the ready. As I got closer I could faintly make out the outline of a person. Well at least it's not that creature from earlier I guess. Luckily their back was turned, so I could go for a sneak attack. However it was so dark that I couldn't see where I was stepping, sending the box in front of me tumbling. I tried to grab it before it hit the floor but I wasn't fast enough, making a loud clatter. Now I've done it! The figure spun around revealing two bright yellow spheres staring at me, they were so not human... This caught me off guard and without thinking I spoke out. "He-hello. U-um, wh-who are you? And wh-why are you in my house?" Smooth Mason really smooth. Now just grow some feathers and cluck then they defiantly won't know you're a chicken. The figure said nothing and instead stalked straight towards me, backing up quickly I hit the wall. I was trapped. Great. The figure was getting closer. I slowly moved my hand towards the light switch hoping it might scare off my attacker. She was directly in front of me. It was now or never. I squeezed my eyes shut. Click. The light came on, illuminating the room, forcing the assailant to stumble back. I slowly opened my eyes as they got used to the light, and then my mouth fell open. "M-mm-Miss ...Carroll?"Stood in front of me was the woman who greeted and gave me casserole earlier.

Miss Carroll. But what is she doing here? "How'd you get in?" Instead of answering me she once again came closer, I dodged around the sofa so I was now behind her but not without knocking some box's over making a loud clatter. I sure hope that woke the others up. A growl irrupted from Miss Carroll's lips she was not happy. I started to back up into the kitchen, until I saw a light come on upstairs. "Who's there?" It was Jessie, thank god. "Jessie I'm ..." I tried to shout up to him but Miss Carroll pounced pinning me to the table as her hand covered my mouth. "Shhhhhhhhh, I just came to give you a warning child. Stay away from that boy." She nodded her head to the direction of Jessie. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. She saw my expression and sighed. Again placing her lips next to my ear and whispered. "He is more trouble than he is worth. If you want to live then I suggest you stay away child." I could hear Jesse coming down the stairs. "Mason?....oh my god Mason! Hey let him go." Miss Carroll hissed in irritation and faced me once more. "Head my warning chid." Jesse was almost in the lounge now and with that she pushed me towards Jesse as she made her escape. Unfortunately Jesse couldn't catch me in time so I went flying into some boxes in the living room. Instead of following Miss Carroll out the door Jesse ran straight to me pulling fallen boxes off me. "Mason you okay!? Are you hurt? Who was that?" Jesse kept firing question after question but I found it hard to question as the room was spinning. He helped me up and seated me on the sofa. "Dude you okay?" Jesse started to inspect my body to see if there was any sign of harm. "I'm fine. Just a bit sore" I said quietly whilst I rubbed my arm which I seemed to of scarped on something when I fell. Suddenly there were footsteps heard upstairs. I'm guessing we woke the other two up. Whoops. "Hey what's going on down there? Is everyone okay?" a topless Orion bellowed as he ran down the stairs. Followed by a timid crystal who was wearing a vest top and shorts and as soon as she saw the mess she gasped. "Oh my. Are you two okay?" "Were fine. Someone decided to pay Mason here a little visit." Jesse turned to me and was not amused. " Spill. What happened? And who was she?" I looked at my hands as I answered. "That was Miss Carroll. You know, the one who gave me the casserole earlier." Jesse looked towards the door voice still stern "And what did she want?" He turned his gaze back to me and I looked away biting my lip. Should I tell him? Should I be afraid of him...? After contemplating this I shake my head. This is nonsense why should I believe someone who breaks into my house. He won't hurt me...Will he? I look around and see all three pairs of eyes staring at me expectantly and I crack. "I'm not sure. You came down before she could say more but...She gave me a warning. About you Jesse... She said you were more trouble than you're worth. What does that mean?" They were all stood silent a concerned looked passed their faces until i saw Jesse's face glaring back at me.
