Love the Stop Expecting lines. The world, family, friends, employers and so on and son expect us to be what they want but it is up to us to be who we want and how to live. Thanks for sharing this because once in awhile we need to read that we are not alone in the struggle to remain true to yourself. Laters, N.
Wow. This one has tugged at my heartstrings. I can feel the emotions behind these lines. The problem with the society is that it expects too much from us. It forces us into doing things we don't enjoy. Ultimately we will realize that we can;t live a lie. We will have to get out of this cage and do what we love. only then can we have peace.
A really good write. Loved the concept in this one :)
There is such pressure by friends, family, loved ones and society in general to expect too much of some people and hypocritically to let others glide through life as they see fit. I have personal attachment to this poem now and forever. Thanks for sharing.

i am glad you could relate. thank you for reading.
I really like how you layed this piece out. The image and the changing colors bring out the power that drives home the message this poem is about. While I agree that in society, expectations have far exceeded the level of opression that a normal person should have to deal with, but at the same time I believe that a person has to expect something of themselves, or they wouldn't be able to set their own goals, to attain their dreams.
Thus I see the focus in this piece, not so much about the idea of expectations, but rather the idea of ceasing following the masses normal and endevouring to become individuals again.

It's true that one has to expect something of themselves to achieve their own dreams........but in this piece I focused on the fact that there are people who expect a lot form you and donot realize that when the other person is trying to reach those expectations ......he somehow starts losing himself and eventually turns out to be someone others always wanted him to be, thus he loses his individuality!

I guess in life, whether or not those expectations are detrimental will depend on what the individual goals are and how they jive with those goals of those around them. I know quite a few young people who want nothing more than to be just what their parents or other elders would like them to be... for them...becoming someone elses goal is a form of happiness for them. I guess the world is full of differences. =)

Yup.....the world is definitely full of differences!
Overall I like this quite a bit, it is incredibly relatable and powerful. My only issue is I feel that the middle stanza's "Just for the sake" could be replaced with something better, for me at least it ruins the flow of the piece. I'm sorry i can't suggest a better phrase, their may not be one. Oh and before I forget I do love the line "STOP EXPECTING I'll be your lifelong clown," that line is brilliance!
Wow! So very powerful. Even though people say to just live up to your own expectations they still have their expectations for you. The way I most relate is because my dad wants me and my sister to go to very prestigious colleges since he never finished his degree at community college. i.e. Duke, MIT, Cambridge, penn state. Keep writing!! :)
There are these words in the English Dictionary and some phrases in the very same language that are pretty close to creating my character sketch
