21st Century Deniers

21st Century Deniers

A Poem by Jonathan P

stainless barrel, knurled grip tucked neatly into copper coil binding.

perhaps I’ll take you out and stumble through cursive that I’ve nearly forgotten.

It feels absurd to use a computer in the park.

I should have brought my stationary, lifted it from the dark,

dusty corner where paper collects dust and nobody notices.

the sound of fiddles in the distance getting closer,

a shriveled man stooped over with a boombox tucked under his arm

smiles and nods as he shuffles slowly by, close your eyes, drift off to a simpler time.

bones swimming in a hockey jersey that used to fit him just fine,

Cooper #10, I’ll see you tomorrow, and I’ll be writing with my ballpoint,

21st century denying.

A good job of trying to re-humanize a bit of our tech-heavy world. I especially like your first line. A great beginning.
