spare changeA Poem by Jonathan PNo man, sorry I don’t have any change for you. I really wish I did. If I had something to give you, maybe that would mean that some stranger will have something to give me. I know where my next meal is coming from. I ‘ve got a week or two before I’m standing in the same position as you. I know, I look like I have something to give you. My clothes are neat and fresh, but this is my best shirt and I can’t afford another one. It won’t be long before I look just like you. Fact is, I’m eyeing up your spot. I’m trying to figure out a better slogan than what you have on your cardboard sign: ‘need money for pot, just being honest!’. If I give you my change today, will you show me how to live on the street tomorrow? sorry, I don’t have any. thanks. you have a great day too. © 2016 Jonathan P |
