Intense grief after a devastating loss

GRIEF

Storm clouds gather around me

Dark and threatening.

I feel the wind blow

              Hard and strong

Hard and strong and close,

Like a wet blanket enshrouding me

                Too close for comfort…

Heavy and smothering

Cold, and

There is no air to breathe.

Nowhere to go…

Pelting rain hurts my body,

Blowing sand stings my eyes.

Waves crash the shore.

I can’t see;

         Are there tears?

There is nowhere to go…

 Heavy rain and winds,

          Sand cold, soggy, and slick.

I can’t see.

I can’t breathe.

                I’m lost…

Nowhere to go but forward.

Keep. Moving. Forward.

Wet, cold sand squishes between my toes,

I barely see the rocks

        Rising before me.

Waves crash on the shore

Fierce waves strong and sure

Deafening roar…

Forward, move forward keep moving forward…

The storm surrounds me, I can’t stop

        It will overtake me.

Yet I know I will make it,

I remember…I have been this way before.

Grief is a dark storm upon the heart. We struggle to keep from being swept away by it. Despite its gloomy nature we know eventually we will find the sunrise. Though a little lonely we will have survived the tempest. Thank you Diane for sharing your art with us.

The all encompassing nature of grief is graphically described here. Also described is the determination to deal with it. Such faith will not go unrewarded, despite the current agony.
