ListeningA Poem by Dominik D. RitesImagine hearing the screams of someone you know at night, only to turn around and see that person awake beside you, listening.
Don't wake me up.
I'm not dreaming. I'm awake as hell and listening. I can hear them coming out of their throats, cracking open. Don't listen to me. I'm not screaming. I'm quiet as hell, and listening. I can hear them, shrieking mahogany, breathing heavily, and approaching. Don't think about them. They're not real. I'm real as hell and listening. Waiting.
