You've Got It AllA Poem by Dominik D. RitesYou can't handle the simple truth.Your skin glows in the sunlight, But your eyes are dull. Though your cold heart is empty, Your lungs are full. You've got long black plastic nails, Glued to your fingers frail. Weak fingers for counting blessings, Never strong from work but still pale. You've got love from your friends, Who can cure and mend. You've got a house, A car, Parents, And a bed. While beneath this blouse, A scar, Apparent, And dead. You have no dues to pay from pockets, No crumpled dollar bills, Or wishing cash would cry from your eye sockets. You've never given up a penny, Not a single silver locket, Or gold watch, Or time to play. You've got hopscotch, And jeans without patches. You have what you've got, Yet you throw down the matches. You keep complaining about having no light, But you're bright, You're alive, You're here, So why? I understand, We all cry, But by your hand, I feel like I'm gonna die. You can't handle the simple truth, But welcome to everyone's youth. Those of us that have powered through this hard life stand tall, But you dare to say that even though you can buy all you want at the mall, You think your whole life is one big fall? You're obsessed with your own "suffering," While I don't even know what I want, My life is still buffering. Appreciate what you have, And stop acting sad. Once you go out there and find out what the real world is, You'll miss your life. You'll look back and realize, It wasn't that bad. While we're aching just to crawl, You can run around and stand tall. Don't lie to me like you do to yourself. You've got it all.
