Long Day

A poem I wrote for my best friend when she was going through a tough time (:

When you’re too scared to keep a straight face,

I will face fear in your place.

When you’re too sad to smile it away,

I’ll cry with you all day.

When life doesn’t seem fair,

And when you feel like you’re about to tear,

I’ll always be there.

When the day feels dark and blue,

I’ll show you a light or two.

When you’re feeling low and small,

I’ll lift you high and tall.

When dreams turn into nightmares,

And no one else seems to care,

I’ll always be there.

When the world feels like a burden,

I’ll carry it for you and that’s certain.

When you really want a refill,

I’ll get it so you can sit still.

When there’s something you can’t bear,

And it’s killing you in every way,

And everywhere,

I’ll always be there.

Just know, I’ll be there.

Author's Note

My best friend lost one of her best friends to a medical condition in March of 2017 and she was going through a really rough patch when I wrote this. I never had the courage to show it to her, but I will someday (: When she does, I just wanted to let her know that if something like that were to ever happen again, I'll always be there.
