The Lost

The Lost

A Poem by Gabriella Earnestine

Lifeless, cursed rose petals,

Strewn by my bare feet,

Stem's thorns that I clench,

Flesh that's starts to bleed.

Darkness like a fog,

I thrash, I suffocate,

A cringeworthy scream,

It is over, I am late.

Thrashing winds inside my head,

In agony, I turn,

I run through my tears,

Leave the corpse inside to burn.

Smoke seeps into my soul,

A heart dipped in shame,

And now my love I shall return,

From whence I came...

This is a dark, word-morphing, frightening glimpse of something dreadful and I have to say, it's thrilling to read. Well done; in this case, the usage of punchy, action phrases was just right
