How Long?

How Long?

A Poem by Arianna Night Swan
"

If a child just up and left, would the parents ever notice? Would they want to?

"

My baby girl is gone.
She left without a sound.
No one noticed her absence,
Until the school called.

We wonder how long,
She hasn't been with us.
She had a rough time in school,
Low grades and all.

Maybe she left at night,
When she knew no one watched.
We need to call the police.
They'll know what to do.

Pictures of her face are everywhere.
People are looking high and low,
Yet she's no where to be found.
Where is my baby?

The officers are making us
Answer questions.
They ask what she looks like,
I think for a moment.

"Around four feet... red hair,
blue eyes... pale."
The police look at the records,
then at me.

They say,

"The last time she went to the doctor
She was
Taller.
Five feet, three inches."

I'm stunned to silence.
How did she
Change so much?
I want her back

Now.

The police leave me
With my son and
My ex-husband and
My boyfriend.

"We found her!"
Were the headlines
Sometime later.
I rushed to the station.

Why does my baby have horns?
Why is she glaring at me?
Did I do something wrong?
Why is she so...

Demonic?

"'Bout time you noticed
I was gone.
It's only been ten years.
Gave me plenty of time to rise through the ranks."

I am confused.
"What ranks,
Sweet heart?"
I really want to know.

"I'm the Devil's personal aid.
Duh."
She turns and starts to
Leave.

"But Raven, you're not
dead."
I wait for the
Answer.

"Then why am I in Hell?"
