your name

your name

A Poem by Kira

i saw your name today,

not even yours,

just a bit you shared

with some boy

neither of us knew.

just a list of similar

garden-variety names,

i traced my eyes down

and saw your name--

like it stood out in gold.

struck by a crazy desire

to touch the ink-letters

i put my fingers

reverently to the paper

as though it would bring you back.

i turned my back on the paper,

and someone spoke to me.

like air-bubbles underwater,

they would not reach me

for i was far away.

It always amazes me when I read something and it almost exactly describes something I have been feeling. Yet this seems to happen almost every time I read something written by you.

The last stanza is beautiful. I love the feeling of desire in this piece, to want to touch the name as though it will, as you wrote, bring them back or let them acknowledge you or something. Wow, this one is great too! Your poetry is really amazing, have you ever thought of trying to publish them in an anthology?

Excellent in its sadness. Love the last stanza. I am always pleasantly surprised when I see a word and think "that's perfect"...and I would never think to use it...in this case it was "reverently"
