Quitting

Quitting

A Poem by BUTTers
"

A girl struggling to quit.

"

"I quit"

She whispered into the mirror

Her eyes sunken

Her cheeks hollowed

She tried the words again

They felt odd on her tongue

She peered honestly

At the bruises on her skin

Her life worn so thin

"I quit" just wasn't right

Not now

Not tonight

Leave quitting for a more oppertune time

Poignant and powerful with so few lines.
A brilliant way to end it "Not now-Not tonight-Leave quitting for a more opportune time"

You said a lot with a few amount of words. Well done.

I like it.
Not many words, but every one you wrote goes straight trough the heart.

Ouch. This is painstakingly real -
I read of an abused woman -- who can't leave
her abuser.

This piece is blunt and forces the reader
into the eyes of the victim ...

Excellent job... indeed.

There are several steps to quitting, and I think this captures both the first and the realization of the difficulty of the next. The idea has formed that she needs to quit, but she realizes that she cannot voice that to anybody but herself just yet - it is simply not that simple. It captures the complications of the scenario well.

Very good poem. I love the message in it.

I really love this poem.
Partly because it seems as though I've lived those same lines.
