Son

Son

A Poem by FlamingPhoenix
"

Ode to my (not so little) boy

"
Oh my dear boy
How you love to annoy

Quite frankly I'm glad you're nearly eighteen
Because your messes are quite obscene

Jelly left smeared on my kitchen counters and floors
Mundane conversation has become a tedious bore

You think you know everything
And your dismissal of me leaves a sting

Your ceaseless complaints of unfair rules
Oh my what's in store after you graduate high school

I hope you grow into a kind and hardworking man
And with all that I've taught you, I know that you can

Why must you be so much like me
I hope you, much quicker than I, learn humility

Life presents some cruel lessons at times
Well it certainly has on this path of mine

So So real. Suffered all that last year. He's almost 19 now. hard working, serious, loving, just wish he'd learn to pick his clothes up, wash a dish or two, clean his own shoes, stop humming annoying tunes while he's plugged into his smart phone. Ummm still got a way to go I'd say.
