Finding the place in me that no longer trusts you...

Leaving my cage

I find myself electrified with rage

"Please, please let me be your friend...," you plead

No longer a lover to share my bed

I gave you time and I gave you space

Lovingly contemplating when I would see your beautiful face

I took a long look in the mirror

And did the work to extinguish my childhood demons and fear

While you threw me away, blocked me out

Looking within, I was consumed in self-doubt

You hypocrite! You're one to speak of trust

An unforgiving mistress of a sheltered broken-heart, lead by unquenchable lust

Empowered, I spread my wings wide

Taking flight, I push my pain and self-blame aside

I bask in the glorious power of my anger

Allowing you to once again become nothing more than a stranger

beautiful....the wrath of a woman is a powerful thing, Phoenix. Glorious imagery and empowerment. I love the stanza: "Empowered, I spread my wings wide/Taking flight, I push my pain and self-blame aside"
It hurts to be dumped. Breaking up is never an easy thing to be for the breaker or the breakee. But, in the end, it is always for the best when the dust clears and you've both grown to understand the wisdom of history from the lens of distance. Beautiful poem.

Well in this case (and this was written a few months ago), I was the relationship dumper, but the other party was the friendship dumper. I actually have a tremendous amount of esteem for this person and continue to think of them fondly--in the moments I wrote this however, I was very angry--and since that's actually not an emotion I feel that often--wanted to capture it. This person and I no longer speak and yet, if you truly enjoy my writing, this person is to thank for that. This individual introduced me to this site and opened the door for me to be able to create again. This person, despite our differences, should be given a place of respect and honor! Thank you for your review :-)
