Illusion

Illusion

A Poem by FlamingPhoenix
"

A reawakening of true self.

"
Strolling down an unknown New York City street
Feeling alive as my feet
Hit the pavement in a foreign land
Yet knowing precisely where I am

Years later, I awake from an obsession
With just one heartbreaking confession
I'm not ready and I knew that then
What I most needed was a friend

Where are MY feet?
I forgot to ask MY self when under the spell of our power and heat
Pastor showed me three boxes, gave me one, and told me to choose
To pick box 2 or 3, I'd have to be willing of box 1 to lose

Excited, like an impetuous child, by the unknown treasure in box 2
I allowed myself to become enmeshed with you
Forgetting MY self, MY dreams, MY ambitions
But now finding myself in a different position

After I awoke, feeling disillusioned, and remembering all who come and go
Once again, my heart like a river, back to source, begins to flow
Off in the distance, I see the setting sun
And remember that in finding MY self again, I've truly won

Phoenix, this is enchanting and masterful. You hit the meter and the rhyme perfectly. This poem compels you to continue reading line after line. It tells such a wonderful story of decisions made and consequences....rediscovery of self and personal identity. Beautiful write. This one is going in my favorites. 100/100

I'm astounded at your prolific writing rate. AND they're all good.
It's obvious you have a natural talent for writing.
I read these poems like chapters in a book.
You are growing, freeing yourself, becoming the person you always knew you were.
You SHOULD write a book.
Great poetry.

:-) Thanks!
It tells a story within the intricate layers of another, weaved together quite epically.
Well done!

You're welcome. ^^
I really love this poem, and the analogy of the boxes. What I would suggest though, if you read it aloud, the I'm and I've sound better as I am and I have, in my humble opinion. And as far as looks of the poem, I would lean towards writing out the 1, 2, 3 etc., but as always, poetic license is the rule!

Your welcome
The illusion has a tendency to disappoint at times. Sometimes it's better to get out while we still can and not feel that way. This was very good, FP.

Thanks :-). One of my first after a decade of poetic silence.
The illusion sometimes disappoints. Glad you were able to break free and be yourself once again. A strong poem written by a strong person. Very good writing.
