A Mere Shell of My Former SelfA Poem by FlaLoverWhat remains when one leaves an abusive relationship
Our relationship is over
I’m free, no longer trapped Years of your abuse left me emotionally handicapped In front of others you were my defender Only I knew you are a pretender Criticism, belittling, rejection, and disregard I began to expect Your thoughtless malice slowly Eroded my self respect Facing the harsh reality that I am a mere shell of who I Used to be Overwhelmed with distrust, fear and despair Asking for God’s guidance Is my daily prayer © 2024 FlaLoverFeatured Review
