There was a house

"

inspired by Sam Walter Foss and "Let me live in a house by the side of the road".

"There was a house"

There was a house by the side of the road,
Where lived a man so grand.
But humble in heart and quiet in soul,
With steady mind and hand.
He did not judge nor frown nor scorn,
nor hurl the cynics ban-
Just cast vigil from porch of his house
An angel over man.

Bequest with quest to hold and heal,
All the wounds of age,
Of body and soul, heart and mind
And help to turn the page.
To comfort stars that fall from high,
To help the lowest cope
To help the stars ascend to sky
To give the lowest hope.

The house still stands but worse for wear,
No sadder sight to see,
But his ghost lives on, lives on for long,
His ghost lives on in me.
So turn from hate, abandon pride,
Well, pride so ego filled,
have pride in self and pride in man
And love so deep instilled.
