Blind Perception

Blind Perception

A Story by Andrea

"A man sat on the edge of his bed with eyes wide open. Although his eyes were clearly present, the man was blind. He had a walking stick beside him. The man got up and grunted with frustration of not being able to see. The man appeared to be in his mid 50's. His wrinkled and distraught face showed his age well. The characteristics of this man were defined greatly. Black hair nudged with some gray hairs in it, dark bags under his eyes caused by stress and old age, pruned hands that pressed against the walking stick to help him find his way around his bedroom, and many more features that identified how long he has been roaming this Earth. The time ticked on the clock upon his wall. The man wore a button up pajama top and matching pajama bottoms. He figured he couldn't dress himself as he squinted at nothing. The facial expression still agonizing as he waited for his assistant. He yelled out a name but there was nothing but silence. His chest began tightening and he tried to scream again. There was nothing now but darkness. He knew the darkness much more than people had thought. Not because of him being blind, but because of the poor life he had growing up and what caused him to be blind. The old man awoke in what seemed like a dream. He could see. The only thing he saw though was white. He slowly took steps around the area to scout where he was at and why. He was scared because he didn't know how to walk normally. Suddenly he heard his name being called out softly behind him. "Jason." The older man turned around to see an aura of a person. "Who are you and why are you here?" Jason pondered. He felt quite afraid of the unknown presence and the unknown atmosphere. "I'm God and I am here because you died." Jason blinked for a bit and than exclaimed, "I CAN'T BE DEAD, I HAVE FAMILY. I STILL NEED STUFF TO DO IN MY LIFE." "Jason, calm down. I know you are in need of help." God spoke softly to his Son. "Well if you're God, than you can give me a working pair of eyes. And if you're God, you can make the rest of the miserable stuff go away." Jason said with an anger in his voice. "I am sorry, I cannot Jason." God told his Son with no emotional touch in his voice, just an absolute answer. "Than I don't quite believe you're God if you can't help me." The older man turned away from the presence and started walking away distraught. "I can't help you in the way you want me to because it might go to your head. It may be the very thing that could make your life worse. Things happen for a reason." God exclaimed. Jason started tearing up. "So why did you make me blind?" The older man started shaking with anxiety. "Jason, I didn't make you blind. Even though you can't see with your eyes, you need to start seeing with your heart. You had a heart attack because you left yourself open to stress and you didn't let me in. So that is why you are here. I can give you a new pair of eyes, but not the eyes you want. I can give you the eyes to your heart and your soul. I can heal what has been broken. Only you can give me the key and the permission to do so. I cannot force you to be healed by myself, The Lord. Are you willing to take these new set of eyes I have prepared for you, my Son?" Jason started sobbing. "How could I accept them if I just rejected you like that?" "I forgive if you repent. There's no two way street here because you are my Son. You are my Child. And if you truly believe in such a thing as being renewed, than so be it by all means." Jason took the offer that God had granted him with and thanked him for everything he has done to save him. He woke up breathing heavily with his family by his side. The room was silent until someone spoke up. "He's awake!" Jason couldn't see who he was talking to but by the voice he knew it was his wife. "Hi Tracy." He smiles slightly. Tracy speaks again. "All of your children are here." One by one, the four siblings exchange greetings to their dad with tears flowing down their cheeks. "We are so happy to see you, dad," the youngest daughter says. Jason tells the group, "I'm happy to see you all too. I cannot see with my eyes but I can spiritually see now. I can see your gentle hearts and words with a deep burning passion. Your spiritual presence is not only something I can feel in my heart, but I can visualize it. The darkness is gone and it's all because God saved me from it." The entire group smiles with an overwhelming love for each other.
