Reluctance

Reluctance

A Poem by Jessica

Sitting on my bed, hands wet
With my cool perspiration
Waiting for my phone to ring again
Carrying your reply
Remembering your arms around me
During that first hug
How I was so disappointed that
It never happened again
I wondered why for so long, so that's where
Our conversation went

You said it was my reluctance
But I wasn't at all
You said it looked like I was
It was a pleasant surprise
My facial expression apparently
Reflected what you mistook
I wish for those arms every night
Only to be put down the next day
So confusing, so irritating, so beautiful
You keep drawing me in

You have done a great job in describing how conflicted one can be in the beginning of a new relationship...misunderstandings sometime occur and can be quite nerve racking. I really liked this part of your poem (see below)....I still do this everytime i am in the begining of a new relationship...and im unsure how committed he is.

Carrying your reply
Remembering your arms around me
During that first hug
