Prologue

A Chapter by Raven

I am sitting in the middle of a cold, stone floor for some unknown reason.
            There are no lights.
I am surrounded by darkness… For some reason, the feeling of guilt is overwhelming me.
What have I done? Did I do something that is making me ashamed of myself?
‘Rayne...’ A light, but ominous voice echoed around me. ‘… A disgrace to The Six. You have broken our most important rule… And for that, we Six cannot forgive you.’
I am sobbing, yet I do not know why. I cannot control my actions, or my words. It seems as though I am reliving my own past experience, and cannot change anything that happened about it.
‘You know the punishment for breaking this rule. Seeing as you are unable to die… We will give you the sign.’ Came a deep voice.
‘NO!’ I screamed. ‘Anything but that! Please! It will never happen again!’
‘ We will ensure it is not repeated. Not only are we to give you the sign, we are to… wipe away your past.’
‘My… Memories? But-- Please! I know what I have done is wrong, you can’t do this!’ I shouted through sobs.
‘You will become an outcast of our world, and an outcast of the human world.” The man continued flatly, ignoring my sobs. “We do not feel sorrow for you. You committed a crime, and for that, punishment is imminent.’ The voice finished. I could hear him as he picked up his hand and made a motion, probably waving me away. Two pairs of hands violently grabbed each of my arms. I kicked and screamed, whilst crying and pleading for forgiveness.
            My pleads were ignored.
I felt myself being pulled into a dark room, with only one torch lighting up the space. I knew what this meant. I felt myself being bound. Having no energy left to scream, I sobbed in place. The cloth over my mouth was choking me when I opened it, but I ignored the pain. The cloth became wet with my tears and saliva. I tried to bite the cloth off of me, but it was no use. Suddenly, a light came up from the floor below me. I finally saw my surroundings, and under me, there were six circles with spokes on the end. All of them began to spin and slide, until they were right below me. Screaming, I began to lose consciousness until all I saw was a bright white light from every direction.
