Flatfish perspective

Flatfish perspective

A Poem by Sane Betwixt

Lost in the miasma

Like a flatfish in the sand

Hidden from disaster

I observe the plight of man

Paying close attention

To his contradictory ways

He has the best intentions

Until his eyes begin to glaze

Transfixed by some desire

A new object for his lust

But gets bogged down in the mire

When his moral compass rusts

He can justify his actions

It doesn’t matter what they are

He is seeking a distraction

When he looks up at the stars

Young and full of pride

He stabs a flag into the moon

And then he’s scared to go outside

And locks himself up in his room

He believes the lies he tells himself

Convinced they are the truth

That what he needs to live is wealth

It is not enough to have a roof

Over his head or a stomach full of fish

He won’t be satisfied until

Some jinni grants his every wish

And even then it will not fill

That black hole he calls a soul

Tormented by existence

He sets himself these goals

In the hope that with persistence

He will make it all make sense

Indicting message to a materialistic society so well-expressed. Vivid imagery and original perspective- lucky flatfish , safe & incognito! Good form, rhyme and flow. Well-done!
