a simple journey of my soul

a simple journey of my soul

A Poem by Caitlynn Cusick

this is going to be a little weird, so bear with me.

first, i want you to close your eyes.
have you done that?
well i'm not going to wait for you to do so.
i don't have all day after all.

second, take a trip into your own psyche.
bypass all the happy fluffy parts,
those are useless to this trip.
i need you to go into the darkest parts of your soul for you to really see.

imagine a girl, at the end of her rope.
she is all alone in her room, tears running down her face,
and a blade held to her wrist.
she is about to make a huge mistake.

no, before you ask, she isn't going to die.
her fate is much worse,
for she is about to cast herself into darkness.
she is forsaking god, and about to make a sacrifice.

the moment she draws her own blood,
in red ribbons down her arm,
she will no longer be safe,
her inner demons will come alive.

her own blood is a sacrifice to her new gods.
she has accepted a fate of pain and sorrow.
no longer will she see light.
hatred and pain are no longer inner demons.

once the first drop of life is spilled, she will become their slave.
such as often happens once one causes themselves pain.
her rulers will begin to crave the taste of her shame.
to them, all she is is their blood w***e.

you may ask, why i took you on this journey.
and rightfully so i might say.
your question isn't unwarranted after all,
and i will gladly answer it.

that little girl was me.
six years ago i followed that path,
i am still their slaves to this very day.
unfortunately, it no longer shames me.

my point is, I've suffered in silence.
much like many others,
and this could very possibly become,
you one day.
