You face yourself

You face yourself

A Poem by Fin Buckley
"

The only way to win is to lose.

"

You face danger,

                            You face peril,

                You face

Yourself.

A trembling hand wraps around a glistening sword,

What’s the matter? Never seen your reflection before?

A smug sneer crosses the Other’s face, you do not smile in return.

Unsheathe your weapon, the Other is empty handed. An easy strike.

Can you do it? Will you kill yourself?

Cool metal weighs more than before, sacrifice and heroism removed.

It’s a plain blade. Nothing special.

You pause before turning the blade on yourself, the Other falters.

Rushes forward, hands meet and bang against a glass wall.

That’s a mista-

You live to make mistakes. You die the same.
