A Poem by Fillmyeyes

Alone
~
The summer sun has faded,
the skies grow dim
leaving way to
the dampness of autumn.
~
The beauty does not comfort me
any more than your picture
on my nightstand
comforts me.
~
This background serves no purpose,
only what"touches me" is truth,
the dampness touches me.
not the warmth of colors,
~
you no longer touch me,
there is no warmth to be found
in your hands just the feel
of the cold damp earth.
~
The sun no longer shines,
it no longer warms me,
you were once my sun.
You no longer warm me,
~
only the cold damp air holds me,
I no longer feel
the warmth of your embrace,
it too has faded and grown cold.
~
I am held only by the cold,
cruel emptiness
of winter.
~
You are gone
and no longer
hold me.
~
Without you I am exposed
to the elements
of earth, and heart,
you no longer shelter me.
   am
        cold
and
      alone.
~

Bravo. A beautiful, smart, introspective piece. Economical use of powerful images and words. Excellent.
