AddictionA Poem by Paige O'Connor
Truly there is no simple way,
To explain why I'd pay the price I pay, For every minute, second, moment, For the feeling of it, For the, Danger, Pleasure, Glory of it. When I surrender myself, To it's powerful hand, Indulge, In it's sin, I become one with it. I am branded, With a seal of might. Chained, With chains of gold. Thrown, Into a pit of light. Locked, Inside with the world. Everyone around me is, Nothing more than human. But aren't I too? No. I am superior. I am a monarch. A despot. A God. Carrying a sword of success, Wearing a crown of honor, In my own name. Flying to heights, No other, Arrogant, Pathetic, Incompetent human, Has ever been able to reach! Until...I realize... I am in truth branded, With a seal of shame. Chained, With chains of iron. Thrown, Into a pit of darkness. Locked, Inside alone. Everyone around me is, More than human. But aren't I too? No. I am inferior. I am not a king, I am not a God, I am a slave. Carrying nothing but filthy hands, Wearing nothing but tear marks of repent, In it's own name. Not flying but falling, To depths no one has ever known... I am addicted to it.
