Missing In Action

A Chapter by Fiereblackitten

My alarm clock blares, waking me up. I drag myself out of bed. It’s 9 am. We have to be at school for 10:15. I hurry to the bathroom and take a shower, do my hair, and makeup. I come out of the bathroom and get dressed. I put on a pretty pale pink tube dress with, white shoes. Then, I got downstairs and get breakfast of the stove. Our butler James cooked it and left. I pick up eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and a hash brown. Then, I stop by the fridge and get some orange juice. I hear mom and dad talking upstairs. They must be getting ready to come down. Mom sounds so happy. It’s nice to know that they still love each other after all this time. I mean, they’ve been through a lot; most couples wouldn’t have survived that. Mom comes down first.

“Hey, “I say.

“Hey.” She says back. “Are you enjoying James’s breakfast?” She says.

“Yeah I am.” I say. “It’s delicious as usual.”

“Your outfit’s pretty.” She compliments me.

“Thanks, and yours is to.” I say.

“Don’t we look just fabulous?” She jokes. Dad comes through the beautiful, hardwood, double doors then.

“Of course, you both do.” He says, as he gets food, and sits down across from mom. We finish eating in silence. Eventually the clock hits 9: 30. I go outside and get in the car with our driver, Lena. She drives a moment and I drift off in my thoughts. I almost hate to go to first period. I think half of my problem with that class is that it’s so early in the morning. I do not like mornings, period. Plus it’s just plain old boring in there. Now, dear reader you might think this is just an excuse, it sounds like one, I know, but, just think, it makes logical sense. Lena pulls up to the school. I slowly get out, I pull out my brand new impulse 4G, that mom surprised me with last week, and look at the time. It’s right at nine fifty. I don’t even bother to quicken my pace. I know that I’ll make it. I get in the school and look for Terry, Laya and Lana. Laya and Lana are sisters. We all have lockers right next to each other. Mine is in the middle of Terry’s and Laya’s and Lana’s is on the end. I don’t see Terry, just Lana and Laya. I walk up to them.

“Hey, y’all where’s T?” I ask putting a U.S History book under my arm.

“I haven’t seen her.” They both say in unison.

“Oh, well what did y’all do for the weekend?” I ask.

“Well, not much.” Lana says.

“Yea, but did you go to that sick party Saturday?” Laya asks.

“Yea, I went it was crazy.” I say. “And, can you believe I danced?”

“No way, shut up!” Laya says. “Are serious?” She asks incredulously.

“Yeah, I did.” I shriek happily.

“Really, swear?” Lana asks.

“I swear!” I say practically jumping to the ceiling.

“That’s so awesome!” Lana says. Then, we all screech happily in the middle of the hallway as if no one else exists. I glance at the clock, on my phone again, its 10:02. Suddenly, Laya and Lana stop laughing and screaming and get real quiet. Their standing with their backs to the lockers and I’m turned toward them. Their eyes get real big. I slowly turn around. It’s Aidan. Did he have to show up now? I haven’t gotten a chance to tell them about all that happened last night.

“What’s up?” He says.

“Oh, not much, just talking to Laya and Lana.” I say. Laya and Lana eye’s almost pop out of their head.

“Oh, well look, I wanted to know if I could walk you to class, sense Marcie is like extremely upset with me right now?” He asks me smiling.

“Sure, but if word gets back around that we were seen walking together it’s not going to be anything nice.” I say and smile back.

“Am I missing something?” Laya asks. I look at Aidan.

“No, you’re not.” I say hurriedly grabbing Aidan’s arm and walking off.

“So, see you around?” he asks when we get upstairs.

“Yeah” I say and walk in class. My morning classes run by, quickly. Now, it’s lunch time. I walk in get my food and sit down beside Laya, and Lana. When, I sit, I notice there in a deep discussion about me and Aidan.

“Spill.” They both say at the same time. Then, I lunge into the whole thing about the party, me dancing with Aidan, his room, and our unexpected friendship.

Then we decide to go sit with them. All three of us walk over. I’m not the least bit nervous sense I spent a whole night and half of the morning with Aidan, but Laya on the other hand looks a little shaky and Lana looks as if she could just fall over any minute. We reach the table and sit down. I take a seat directly in front of Aidan, Laya sits beside me in front of Kane, and Lana sits beside Laya in front of Zane. Kane and Zane are twins just like Laya and Lana. I think those four would be just perfect for each other. Zane seems quiet just like Lana and Kane seems a little more outspoken like Laya. Of course, they both have girlfriends to but, with a little rearranging we can change that. Oh and there’s Darius, Jason, and Tyler sitting on the end of the table with Mia, Macie, and Ja’Leah. So, right now there are 14 of us. There are no more chairs at our table so the rest of B.M.I will have to take the next popular table.

“Oh, so y’all made it?” Aidan asks.

“Yea, I guess we did, we’re here aren’t we?” I joke.

“Wow, she seems like a lot to handle, Aidan, dude, you better watch out.” Kane says. Just, as I recognized earlier that’s a boy that’s not afraid to speak his mind.

“Watch out for what?” Laya says. “J’ isn’t about nothing she’s just all smoke with not a flame in sight!” Laya says.

“Oh, trust me; she had a lot flame this weekend when she very rudely went off on me in my room, Saturday.” Then, we all laugh, but of course Laya had to catch on and really listen to what he just said.

“Wait, J’, you were in his room?!” She asks curiously. I don’t know how to answer her. Of course Aidan used this as a tremendous opportunity to make the situation worse.

“Well, let me tell you the story about how she got drunk, because, she didn’t know I spiked the punch and she was dancing all over me and just acting crazy. Then, I took….” He starts, but I cut him off.

“He took me to his room and we talked, and laughed and eventually I passed out and I woke up in his bed, at his house, at ten am, with him on the floor.” I say. Laya and Lana put their heads together oooooing and awwwing as if I hadn’t said anything.

“Oh, you were that girl that was dancing all drunk on the table, that Aidan took to his room.” Kane says. “Somehow you looked so different from last night.” He says with a look of pure wonder on his face.

“Yeah, that was me.” I say and smile.

“I imagined you differently.” He says.

“I imagined you to be an arrogant, fake, excuse for a B.M.I. I say.” “But, turns out you’re not, oops.” I say.  Laya, Lana, and Aidan laugh.

“Oh, now see, that wasn’t even cool.” He says throwing Aidan a look. Aidan shrugs. Just then Marcie, Karen, and Tia come up. This is ridiculous looking like they stepped off a runway and decided to come to school.

“Hey, baby what’s up?” Kane says speaking to his girlfriend Tia. Zane doesn’t say anything to his. It doesn’t matter they pretend like they don’t even see them.

“What are you dumb skank’s doing in our seats?” Marcie says looking like she wants to snatch me out my chair and drag me around the cafeteria.

“We were invited.” I say sweetly.

“You were what?!” She yells walking over to Aidan. He looks as if he couldn’t care less if she leaves or stays.

“I invited them.” He says speaking clearly, slowly, and loudly as if she were deaf, or stupid. Actually she might be both.

“You did this.” “You turned my own boyfriend against me.” “Well, watch out trick, because everywhere you look I’ll be right behind you waiting to get you all alone and rearrange your face.” She said trying to look scary but instead she looked like a new born puppy trying to intimidate its mother.

“Look, Marcie I’m not like you, I’m not some skank who sneaks around with someone else’s boyfriend and successfully tries to get away with it like you did, you floozy.” “And if you didn’t know I’m standing right here and I’m fully ready to wipe the floor with your fake corpulent self, right, here and now.” I laugh. “And you still need a malicious butt kicking for doing what you did to Tory, but difference between her and me I am not scared to tear you down.” “When, I get done with you , you will wish you didn’t even know my name and if you didn’t know you’re clearly still with him.” To my surprise Marcie looks shocked. The whole cafeteria is turned towards our table now. Marcie knows she better not step to me in front of the whole school or she might get beat again, so she just stands there. The tension is noticeable at the table. For several minutes she stands there and doesn’t say anything. She looks at me, Aidan, her friends and back.  She then, turns to leave.

“This is definitely not the end of this.” She says.

“It’s just beginning.” I shoot back at her. “Something else you should remember too Marcie, smart girls open their mind instead of thinking along the lines, easy girls spread their legs, and foolish girls open their heart to the wrong drug dealer living down the block, so which are you?” I add. She doesn’t say anything just walks off. I sit back down in my chair.

“I’m sorry about her and that was impressive.” Aidan says.

“Thanks and I’m not worried about that pathetic little girl.” I say

“True and how did you know about what happened with Marcie and me when I was with Tory?”

“If you didn’t know, Tory and I were best friends until she started hanging out with B.M.I, I’d say it was your fault but that’s all over now.” I say smiling pleasantly.

“Are you serious?” He asks jokingly ignoring my last comment. “She always seemed so stuck-up.”

“I guess you should know it when you see it.” I say and laugh.

“I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that.” He says. I laugh and I’m truly happy for the first time sense I came to middle school,  and to high school it feels so good, good to have friends to talk to, good not be alone. I just met these people. I don’t know if they’re true friends, but I sure hope so.

“Really, so what are you doing tonight?” He asks casually.

“Sitting around my room, why?” I ask.

“That’s no fun, come to my house with Zane, Kane, we’re getting together after school and of course we’ll need some girls to get our party started.” “So how about you and the twins come hang with us?” He asks. I look at the twins.

“What do ya’ll think?” I ask them

“We’re in.” Laya answers for her and her sister. I turn back to Aidan.

“We’ll go.” I say. “What time?”

“Come at 6pm.” He says. The bell rings. We all say bye and go to class. I through my last class periods of the day, I feel like I’m floating. I’m so happy I can barely contain it. I just want to shout to the whole world I’m Happppppy.
