The Rhythm

The first time I learned to dance
I was on my father's feet.
He moved from left to right
He told me to listen to the beat.

I smiled up at him
Thinking I'd accomplished much.
He let me loose...
But too often I came unstuck!

Later, as I got older
The rhythm came easily.
Swaying from left to right had changed
And the music took hold of me.

I had a new partner now
He held me so close.
My heartbeat through a blouse
I wasn’t sure what I liked the most.

Hands were placed in strategic spots
Upon my waist, caressing my neck.
The room sank away in the rhythm of a beat
In his arms, I felt complete.

The music stopped
But we continued to move.
This was no ordinary rhythm -
No ordinary groove.

The night wore on and also the days.
The rhythm of the song
That ignites OUR soul...
Forever stays.

You described the dance very well.
It are those small moments that make life truly matter.
And we just might fall in love forever after a dance.
