City

City

A Poem by Fia Naturie

Constant Noise.
Constant beats.
Constant walking,
on city streets.

Never that dark.
lights light up the sky.
Never walk in the park.
Late at night.

Carts of food,
at every corner.
Venders drool,
for their next quarter.

One in the morning,
you still get some smiles.
One in the morning,
Don't trust those eyes.

Does a city truly sleep?
As busy as it seems.
Even rodents creep.
Hyped up on caffeine.

Would I survive at a slower pace?

Could I stand a slower race?

A choice of fast or slow,
is presented to me.
I'll go with the flow,
see what I can see.

If the time should occur,
And I should hit that wall.
City here I come,
that is where I started after all.

A good write about the differences of urban vs rural living. The contrast is well written and concluded in the last stanza with good resolution.

Thank you for your comment
Reminiscent of Hughes' Harlem: a crowded, noisy city that is more than buildings and people; it's what gives birth to one, nurtures, and defines one for better or for worse. I like the natural flow and rhythm of this piece.

No particular city is mentioned, but NYC comes to mind in this one. You capture very well the ongoing pace of that vast metropolis.

Welcome to Writers cafe, Fia. You've chosen a really nice poem to start with. The city - no matter where it is - can be a glorious place for some who enjoy walking among others or being submerged in its night-life. :)

It's good to see you here.
