"Loss"

"Loss"

A Poem by Francine Harris

Exhaustion seeps in
as my tears delve
in the wet crevices of my wounds
They overflow into my veins.
that deep?- you exclaim!
i contemplate an adequate response.
Perhaps.
similar to blood, water may be just as thick.
I am drained, a small lump forms in my throat.
Shallowed breaths skim past our sweaty palms,
our supple yet strong grasp of each others hands
encircle and stick.
Humanity is a frail skeleton
in a closet
opened sparingly, lest it creeps out
and becomes accustomed to the glaring sunshine.
I grow restless as your breath shallows further
a wispy surge of air
rattles the loose strands
and my bones.
Your mouths gapes like a fish
as your eyes lose focus.
"I love you" I whisper
as i kiss
Your cold, immobile lips.
