Temporary Insomnia

Temporary Insomnia

A Poem by Fearless Sunshine

I cannot sleep
My body aches
My muscles sore
Ready for sleep to whisk me into it's warm, enticing arms
And yet I lie awake

I cannot sleep
I watch 2am soap operas
And read pieces of novels
Filling up my brain with even more everlasting thoughts
So I lie awake

I cannot sleep
I stretch my legs
Fluff my pillow
The joints in my body crack like pop rocks
And I lie awake

I cannot sleep
Tummy full of tea
Covered in soft quilts
I listen to the sweet, smooth voices of piano notes
And I feel tired
And I try
Once again
To sleep
