A Soldier, Too Far Gone.A Chapter by FaytheFeyA story/poem about a soldier fighting to protect his home, and the woman who started the battle.I am a soldier, I have a reason why. I am a fighter, I won’t lay down and die. I hurtle my way through the field, leaping over the fallen, heart in my throat, as I recognize the faces. My lungs burn, my legs fly, feet never touching the ground. My eyes catch sight of her carriage, silk veil hung to hide her. Behind layers of silk I see her, The light gone from her eyes, From her lips, Fell naught but lies. I don’t stop to morn her, I can’t. Others need me to be strong, but as I turn I’m too far gone. I think of nothing as I’m hit. Protect the people who can’t fight, my father had always told me, he died by that law, and now so shall I. She said that all would be fine, But I could tell, Because of her, We’d go through Hell. We fight, just trying to stay alive. Our leader had fallen, I took charge. We win, or we die, there can be no retreat. I fight for my life and the person’s beside me, I can’t see the future, but I’d like to see the sunrise. My people need me. And now we have, Not all survived, Some came out, Not quite alive. As a soldier I knew the risk, but my loyalty to my home out weighed it. Now as we stumble, trek, trudge, fall, back toward our home, I still believe this. My people needed me, they asked who would go to protect them, and I came, “I will go. Send me.” © 2010 FaytheFeyAuthor's Note
