Knowingness.

The soul does not sleep.

What slumbers is knowingness.

Awaking to better intentions

revives stale relationships,   

re-wires old circuits

and enlivens the

spark of partnered  lives.  

Igniting love's energy-lines 

brings not only fire  

but sparks of new tenderness

that ease rusted wires.

Awareness of care lends

meaning to hearing    

and rejects heavy leaning 

on the judgemental

so scars can be healed

The soul does not sleep.

What slumbers is knowingness.

I don't think I've ever heard the word "knowingness" before, but as used here it seems to be something akin to enlightenment. I believe the Buddha described himself as "awake," and such a state seems to align with the state described in this offering. Indeed, the knowingness of many seems to be in a situation of slumber. I suppose what brings one to the wakened state varies from person to person, and doesn't always have to be pleasant.

Yes I agree and thank you John for describing in more detail the state I tried to convey in the poem - - in fact I rather like the word knowingness as applied to an inner wakening.

Oh, wow; that's an interesting article- growing up we may all have bought into the idea that "ignorance is bliss." This may be an awakening to knowing and knowingness. Again, wow!

You spoil me no end - but I edited this poem to separate lines etc. and now find it scrunched up again - strange eh - will blame it on my new computer - - looked better when edited but hope - it is readable ........... x
