Eyeing.

Eyeing.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Eyeing.

A fish,
like translucent shadow
slowly shows silver through dimly

low-lit submarine green.

A gill
like laced edge of poncho,
rising to roll a lake's morning face

steadily sways to breathe.

A skin,
of thinnest divide knows
it is separated from my airy flesh

solely by liquid need.

A fin,
touched by finger coated
in bubbles for closer contact slips

to more safety beneath.

A flip,
and fish dives fast below
in mist churned by interference

'tho glassily eyeing me.

And grateful dear Ken for your dropping by and for the review of Eyeing...........

we got a choice to make now.. dont we.. is this a single specimen poem or a whole shoal ... after peering through so many reeds, I'm blowed if I can make up my mind .. but at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter which way ya look at them/it .. there are no red herrings here :)

Thanks to Einstein Noodle (Gene) for read requesting me on your excellent poem that I would've hated to miss. I love this poem on many levels. First, it's just plain excellent detailed observation of real life & then transcribed into interesting word paintings. Second, I'm reminded of how this could be something other than the fish, something other than the water, like possibly the veil that separates the living from the dead. But most of all, I'm just thinking this could be the way life itself seems so elusive & so ever-changing depending on the angle & the light at which we view it. This is brilliant on many levels! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

dearest Fay... years ago, we fished on the side of a mountain
where Rainbow Trout were easily caught. I had a large Net with
a handle and when we caught the Trout and placed it in the Net...
it swished and struggled and slowly lost its Colour.
It was put on Ice for the drive home. I will never forget the
Exquisite Beauty of the Rainbow Trout, and how I felt so badly
to disturb the gift of Nature. gently, Pat

oh my goodness Fay! i think this is exquisite .. if ever the sense of haiku could be expanded and translated to human touch this is it .. i loved reading and experiencing every drop of "Eyeing" .. the pic a perfect compliment and vis versa ... which came first? the pic or the poem? just curious ;) V3 is killer for me .. stunning imagery throughout .. drew me in and held me there .. felt a bit of the splash of water as the fish turns and flips that tail ... well done! thanks so much for sharing .. i can't believe more people have not found this one yet ..
